The portfolio will preserve and record your writing throughout the course. All print-based materials involved in major writing assignments must be included (including preliminary and exploratory writing from in-class sessions, outlines, drafts, peer-review sheets, revisions, final drafts, and any documents associated with the rewrite process). You must also include your Reflection Essay as the first document of your portfolio. All final copies of your Reflection Essay and your major writing assignments should be stored in an acceptable format and location; you will post these files in an e-folio along with links to your personal blog project and our course wiki.
Why create both a print and an e-folio?
While the print portfolio serves as a substantial record of your writing activity and development throughout the semester, the e-folio represents your most polished work. Further, e-folios preserve your files in a presentable format that can be accessed permanently. In short, while the print portfolio is an excellent way for your instructor to assess your writing development, e-folios are enormously helpful for you as a student and a job seeker.
What is expected?
You may formally rewrite both your Electronic Literacy Narrative and your Multimodal Rhetorical Analysis (resulting in a higher overall grade for those individual assignments), however, you should adapt and revise the final copies of all major writing assignments. You are expected to submit only your best work. In so doing, you will hopefully have created and preserved texts suitable for scholarship, internship, and job applications.
How should the print portfolio be presented?
The format for presenting your print portfolio is up to you. A three-ring binder is an easy and relatively inexpensive method of presenting your print portfolio, but any method which holds all materials together will work.
How should the e-folio be presented?
You may use your personal blog or eFolioMinnesota to present your electronic portfolio. For either option, you will create a website dedicated to the professional presentation of your work. Either site will have a static URL that you can use and refer others to, and you may upload and revise content at any time.
How will the Portfolio Project be graded?
Your portfolio project will be graded holistically. In other words, both your print portfolio and your e-folio will receive the same grade. A high-quality print portfolio accurately represents development of the writer, whereas an effective e-folio presents that writer's polished expertise.
Evaluation: Out of 25 total points (25% of final grade)
Method: Letter grades will be used* (A= 25-23, B=20-22, C=18-19, D=17-15, F=14-0)
*For a detailed evaluation criteria, access the course syllabus.
